Course descriptionThis is a core course for the MSc in Advancing Nursing Practice and the MSc by Research (Nursing) which presents an eclectic view of research methods in healthcare and nursing research. It is delivered on-line.

Increasing importance is being attached to evidence-based practice and policy in healthcare systems around the world. This reflects a growing awareness of the necessity for health care and health services to make best use of science and technology in delivering high quality and cost-effective services and in systematically evaluating their outcomes, whether in terms of individual benefit, service attainment, consumer satisfaction or public health improvement. All healthcare professionals are now expected to have a sophisticated understanding of how research methods and research findings can be exploited in the delivery, development and evaluation of services for the benefit of patients and clients. During this course, students will be expected to gain detailed and critical knowledge of the principal research designs and methods relevant to nursing and healthcare research.
