in resource modelling and assessment for wind, wave and marine currents (including tidal); provides understanding of user needs for resource assessment and its relation to offshore marine energy production (i.e. calculation of energy yield across all offshore RE technologies); and describes the measurement and data analysis procedures for site resource assessment.

Syllabus 1. Definitions of resource: Maximum; Technically feasible; Economically feasible; Socially acceptable;

2. Basic characteristics for wind, wave and tidal; fundamental equations and drivers;

3. Wave definitions: Linear Wave equations; Energy and Power; Wave spectra;

4. Wind : Boundary layers and atmospheric stability; roughness effects; turbulence (1 and 3D) -; wind spectra; wind coherence;

5. Tidal Stream definitions: Equilibrium theory of tides; Harmonic analysis; Boundary layers (wind shear); turbulence; fundamental flow equations;

6. Correlations between wind, wave and tidal (including Wave-current interaction: the effect on resource;

7. Metocean characterisation overview;: Important meteorology; seasonal variations for all offshore energy fluxes;

8. Resource Assessment:

a. Requirements for project development: short and long term; accuracy and predictability
b. Regional assessment
c. Site assessment
d. Methods of assessment;

i. Physical measurement (bouys/ adcps and met masts) - requirements
ii. Numerical and statistical modelling
