Course descriptionThis course will teach modern sequence stratigraphic approaches as applied to carbonates, both in outcrop and in the subsurface. In particular, students will gain an understanding of the role of sequence stratigraphic models for reservoir property prediction, and in subsurface exploration appraisal and development.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- Understand the basic concept of the sequence-stratigraphic approach
- Understand how to interpret seismic cross section in carbonates using sequence stratigraphy
- Understand the major controls on carbonate production
- Develop a basic understanding of carbonate environments and facies analysis within a sequence stratigraphic framework
- Develop a basic understanding of high-resolution carbonate sequence stratigraphy
- Understand the fundamental differences between clastic and carbonate sequence stratigraphic models
- Develop a basic understanding of sequence stratigraphic analysis and stratigraphic surfaces in carbonates using seismic and wireline data
- Develop a basic understanding of the controls on carbonate stratigraphic architectures and geometries
- Understands the uses and abuses of sequence stratigraphy
