Course descriptionAn introduction to the Latin language for complete beginners and those with limited recent experience of the language. A thorough grounding is provided in the essentials of Latin accidence (nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs) and in the syntax of the simple sentence.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students who complete the course successfully will be able by the end of the course to demonstrate in written examination and course work (including weekly quizzes and tutorial exercises)that they:
- have mastered the accidence of the Latin language;
- have an understanding of the basics of Latin syntax (simple sentences);
- are able to translate straightforward Latin sentences with the help of a dictionary.
Assessment Information
A series of linguistic exercises (40%);
an end of semester class test in grammar and in translation into English (60%).
