Course descriptionThe aim of this course is to discuss mechanisms underlying thedevelopment of complex multicellular organisms. We will examine the relative influence of genetic and environmental cues in regulating development, with particular emphasis on development of the mammalian ovary and central nervous system. Topics that will be covered in detail include: ovarian development, transcriptionalregulation of development, intercellular signalling, cell proliferation and cancer and axon guidance. The use of modern molecular biological techniques, genetics and embryological manipulations will be discussed in the context of the analysis of developmental mechanisms.
