| Course description | This course will present students with the opportunity to study the expanding amount of published research on Scottish emigration, to which the course organiser has contributed. This will include government intervention in Scotland to prevent emigration, assisted emigration, patterns of emigration from Scotland and the impact of an established tradition of emigration on the development of Scottish society in modern times. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
| Students will be encouraged to take a proactive role in seminars and to develop their own interests within the general structure of the course, building the confidence and self reliance necessary to increase depth of research and analysis in their final year special subject in History or Scottish History. |
Assessment Information
| There will be one essay of 3000 words weighted at one third of the overall mark and an examination paper of two hours duration set in the June diet of examinations, weighted at two thirds. |
