Course descriptionThe course will include introduction to basic epidemiology and principles of statistics for control of infectious diseases. The course will use a problem-solving approach to facilitate learning of some basic epidemiological concepts and practice simple statistics.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will develop and understanding of:
&· General concepts of epidemiology and principles of statistics applied during investigations of infectious diseases
&· Principles of statistics in experimental design
&· Statistical applications in analysis and interpretation of scientific data
&· Understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different epidemiological and statistical methods, the links between them and how they can be employed to undertake infectious disease studies
Assessment Information
100% coursework with assessments in the following:
&· General concepts of epidemiology and principles of statistics applied during investigations of infectious diseases [50%]
&· General concepts of molecular biology and how these apply to disease control [25%]
&· Underlying [principles of immunochemistry techniques and how these apply to infection and immunity research and disease diagnostics [25%]
