Course descriptionThis course will explore aspects of dinosaur evolution and their biology. It will introduce the student to the Triassic world when the first dinosaurs walked the earth and examine their evolutionary history throughout the Mesozoic. Topics include mass extinctions, in general and how they relate to both the origins and extinction of dinosaurs; the evolution of theropods, including birds; taxonomy of the ornithischians and sauropods; amber and Jurassic Park; reproductive behaviours, including nesting and egg laying habits; dinosaur physiology; dinosaur palaeobiogeography; and the formation and taphonomy of bone beds and biostratigraphy. The course primarily consists of student presentations, together with discussion.
