Synopsis
Design principles; visual impact; legal and ethical
constraints; design processes.
Aims
1. To investigate and assess the impact of new
design on old.
2. To consider how existing buildings may be
sensitively transformed.
Mode of Delivery
This module is chiefly taught through studio-based
seminars and tutorials with supporting lecture and
visits. Project work is carried out in collaboration with
architecture students from the Contemporary
Architectural Intervention Unit (DA16002). |

On completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Display familiarity with the skills and processes
of architectural design.
2. Display an understanding of the architect?s
approach to existing buildings, and of the impact
of new work on existing built fabric.
3. Display organisational, verbal and
presentational skills appropriate to Design
