The aims of the module are:
? To introduce basic concepts of acoustics to students
? To give an overview of environmental noise (sound propagation outdoors)
? To provide an understanding of the theories used in building acoustics (including room acoustics, sound insulation, duct-borne noise and vibration isolation)
? To make students familiar with the application of the above theories for noise control solutions |

At the end of this module, students should:
? Have gained an understanding of the basic concepts of acoustics
? Have a comprehensive knowledge of theories used in architectural acoustics
? Be able to undertake calculations for the design of noise control features
? Be able to discuss intelligently problems related to architectural acoustics
? Be aware of computer models and packages relevant to architectural acoustics
At the end of this module, students should:
? Have developed an engineering approach to the solution of problems
? Be able to identify appropriate methods and apply them in the practical situation
? Have developed the ability to apply and adapt processes and methodologies in unfamiliar situations
