Course description |
An intensive course of tuition in spoken and written Spanish for students with no or little previous knowledge of the language. A general introduction to the history and culture of the Hispanic world, together with the study of two appropriate texts and/or films. The course is open to students of any year, but not to students qualified for admission to Spanish 1B. A good deal of private study is necessary to meet the requirements of the course. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To provide a firm grounding in Spanish language, both written and oral, with a view to preparing potential Honours students for living and either studying or working in a Spanish-speaking country during their third year. To provide an understanding of some important literary and cultural issues relating to the countries where Spanish is spoken. |
Assessment Information
1 essay (1000 words); weekly exercises and 2 class tests. Course work and class tests 40%; degree exam 60%. |
Special Arrangements
Students qualified for Spanish 1B should not be enrolled for Spanish 1A. If in doubt, consult the Division of European Languages and Cultures Teaching Office, 59 George Square. |
