Course description Stem cell technology, organ and tissue growth and regeneration and their implications for biotechnology and regenerative medicine will be studied in a twenty credit course running over the first and second semesters. In the second semester the course will be taught via Edinburgh-based e-learning.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course a student should be able to:


&·Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of developmental biology and genetics.
&·Demonstrate an understanding of stem cell manipulation and derivative biotechnologies.
&·Demonstrate an understanding of the limitations and possibilities of current technologies in regenerative medicine.
&·Produce and critique rational strategies for developing stem cell and regenerative medicine-based products.
Assessment Information
Course essay. As part of this course, tutorial support (3-4 one hour sessions) on how to structure and write scientific essays will be given, including in-class writing exercises tailored to this course.
