Additional Information
Academic description RATIONALE
1) To provide flexibility in relating the research methods more closely to the types of independent dissertation available to students;
2) To facilitate effective supervision of groups of students who undertake projects on similar topics, and who therefore have commonality in the reading and design of their projects;
3) To facilitate the opportunity to undertake dissertation topics that have been suggested by investment and other executives, with advice and often data from the relevant executive. We believe that a shorter dissertation, linked to a thorough understanding of relevant research methods, will fit better with the type of project suggested by investment practitioners;
4) To allow students to integrate their study of research methods with their initial planning of the research project;
5) To allow more scope for option choices in the second semester by freeing up a 15-credit slot;
6) To provide flexibility regarding teaching and assessment of research methods as integral to the independent dissertation planning and execution.
7) To reinforce the students ownership of the dissertation project.

The marks will be finalised at the October exam board rather than the June exam board.
