Course descriptionBrain Imaging in Neuropsychology introduces the student to range of brain imaging techniques and examines their application to cognitive neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience.

This course considers a range of methods from functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography to event-related potentials. The course provides extensive teaching on functional imaging from methods to application, focusing on experimental design, the principles of data analysis, and application to the understanding of language, memory and frontal lobe functions and dysfunctions. The course will consider the scope and the limitations of the application of imaging methods in cognitive neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience.

Teaching is provided by imaging specialists within the HCN team and by external lecturers.

In addition to the face-to-face teaching, the course includes learning through an interactive elearning package on Brain Imaging. Students are expected to go through these e-learning tutorials during the course in their own time.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will gain knowledge and understanding of:
- a range of imaging methods including both functional and structural neuroimaging
- the application of such imaging methods to the investigation cognitive models (memory, executive functions, language)
- students will understand the uses and limitations of imaging methods in the study of neuropsychology
