Course descriptionThe course will be an introduction to epidemiology, modelling approaches and the principles of statistics for control of infectious diseases. The course will use a problem-solving approach to facilitate learning and practice basic epidemiological concepts and use of statistics.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will develop an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different epidemiological and statistical methods, the links to modelling of disease with exemplars of how the approaches may be employed to undertake disease research and how they are used for prediction and risk analyses:
¿ general concepts of epidemiology and principles applied during investigations of infectious diseases
¿ molecular epidemiology
¿ the use of modelling approaches for research investigation
¿ statistical applications in analysis and interpretation of scientific data.
