Course descriptionOrganisations, their workforces, clients and customers face new internal and external contextual issues on a regular basis. Sometimes, they have solutions and responses to deal with these new challenges and opportunities, at other times they are faced with the need to innovate and change. The course aims to introduce students to a range of explanations that can help in the understanding of how organisations and their component membership approach change. In so doing, students will be encouraged to explore a range of practical techniques that can be used in dealing with change.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1.
Knowledge and Understanding:
At the end of the course, students will be expected to have:
1. Knowledge of theories, models and concepts applicable to organisational change.
2. Understand the wider context of change within the general management of organisations.
3. The ability to apply different analytical techniques to a range of practical organisational change issues.
4. Developed a critical approach to the theory and practice of change in organisations and an insight into the practical consequences of its management.
5. Be able to critically discuss the challenges that face those managers involved in change and demonstrate an understanding of the contingent factors that impact upon such challenges.

2. Cognitive Skills:
By the end of the course, student should have developed the practical skills of
* Identifying and sourcing key texts and written sources.
* Summarising theoretical debates.
* synthesising the results of empirical research
* communicating ideas to others

3. Key Skills:
On completion of the course, the students should be able to:
* demonstrate their awareness and understanding of complex debates
* present a consistent and well structured account of these debates via an assessment.
* discuss the subject among peers, both communicating their own ideas and critically assessing the ideas of others.
Assessment Information
The assessment will be in the form of an individual report of 2500 words exploring multiple aspects of managing organisational change using examples. The report accounts for 65% of the course assessment.
Students will also prepare a group presentation around a real-world case study of organisational change and accounts for 35% of each students course assessment. The course tutor's mark will carry 30% and the remaining 5% will be carried by peer assessment.
