Course descriptionThis course consists of an intensive practice-focused preparation to enable students to begin their psychotherapy and counselling placements, and the first block of professional practice: 50 hours of therapeutic practice with clients and 10 hours of clinical supervision. While in placement, students also attend individual clinical tutorials and a practice-focused group at which they present their professional practice with clients. The first professional portfolio, through which this course and the DPsychotherapy Placement 1 are assessed, is completed when these placement hours have been attained.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. By the end of the course students should have:-
- a thorough and critical understanding and knowledge of personal and professional issues in beginning their psychotherapy and counselling practice with clients
2. - the capacity to make a critical evaluation of their strengths, skills, learning and support needs in relation to beginning psychotherapy and counselling practice and forming therapeutic relationships
3. - an ability to accept and integrate feedback, assessment and guidance regarding their therapeutic practice from tutors, peers and clinical supervisor
4. - the capacity to analyse their motivation to choose a particular psychotherapy and counselling placement
5. - a heightened awareness of the processes involved in new beginnings: for themselves, for their clients and for the teams / agencies they are joining, with reference to issues of power, diversity and difference
