Course description | This is the first course in a series of courses which introduces the postgraduate students to online distance education and the skills necessary to search for and make use of relevant clinical scientific literature. The broad aims are:
¿ To provide an introduction to this modular course of study.
¿ To help participants understand the difference between Masters level education and that of undergraduate teaching or traditional short courses of didactic teaching or skills coaching.
¿ To adapt to online distance education and understand how to navigate the virtual learning environment.
¿ To direct participants towards a wide range of resources and give guidance on how to find, use and reflect on the available evidence.
¿ To introduce clinical photography and the gathering of data for a portfolio of evidence

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Understand the concept of self-directed learning and the level of assessment for this Masters degree
Have a logical approach to data gathering
Understand forward planning and consideration of resource and time management
Understand the basic research principles of literature search, critical appraisal, and types of clinical trials and be able to perform a Medline search.
Present a range of information using the appropriate audio-visual techniques.
Be able to navigate the virtual learning environment and participate in the online educational experience
