|The Secondary Placement 2 builds on the Secondary Placement 1 Course. The course will contribute further to the student teacher's development as a reflective practitioner, the over-arching theme of the reviewed Programme. The four subsidiary themes: Learning, Thinking and Teaching, Education Research and Enquiry, Equity, Diversity and Values and Curriculum Design and Development, will be considered within the placement arrangements through the student teacher's observation, analysis and practice and through discussion with colleagues in the placement school and with the University tutor.
Implicit in the PGDE(S) Programme developmental model is the conviction that student learning should develop in partnership between the two partners, the University and the placement school. Partnership working is valuable and complementary. University studies offer the opportunity for students to develop theoretical frameworks which inform and support reflection on practice and in practice. Placement offers the opportunity for students to apply theory in practice and to develop new theory from practice.
Whilst on placement, students learn through observation and practice which includes how to :
reflectively observe and analyse the ways in which experienced teachers teach, reflect and act on constructive feedback from mentors and other staff;
analyse classroom processes and interactions;
identify individual pupils' learning needs and ways of meeting these;
apply subject specialist knowledge and subject specialist pedagogies within a classroom context;
participate in the wider school context, and reflect analytically on that context;
interact professionally with a broad range of personnel involved in the care of children and young people.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
|After successful completion of this course, students will:
be working satisfactorily, confidently and with increasing independence in all areas of the benchmark profile for Initial Teacher Education
have successfully completed placement tasks (some of which deal directly with the four subsidiary themes of the reviewed Programme)
have demonstrated an understanding of, and an ability to relate theory to practice through the Professional Development Portfolio
have observed and analysed Primary classroom practice
have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with teaching colleagues and other professionals involved in the care of children and young people
|Student teachers are observed by their tutor once in Secondary Placement 2. A Joint Report is written by the tutor and the school mentor which details progress against the benchmarks for Initial Teacher Education and indicates next steps. Evidence for assessment is sought from the tutor observed visits, the placement experience as a whole and the student teacher's Portfolio for Professional Development.
This block placement is summatively assessed.
