Course descriptionThis course consists of two parts (each 20): French Language (language work, written and oral) and French Literature (15th to 19th centuries).

Class Delivery Information There are three tutorial hours per week; 1 hour for practical/oral study, 1 hour for literature study and 1 hour per week for language/grammar. Tutorial days, times and locations will display on the student's personalised timetable after course enrolment.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To enable students, through the development of their grasp of the French language (written and oral), their appreciation of French culture, their critical abilities, and their independent study skills, to undertake programmes of study at francophone universities on reasonably equal terms with francophone students, and / or work on projects for Edinburgh University during their residence abroad, including preparation for dissertations to be completed in 4th year; and to prepare students for the advanced language course and intensive seminar-based content courses of French 4 Hons.
Assessment Information
Class work = 35%; Degree Exam = 65%. The Degree Exams include an oral exam, a language and a literature written paper.
