Course descriptionStudents will take two weekly language classes: one written language class in translation from German to English and report writing in German, and one spoken language class in German.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
1. This course systematically develops translation skills: the ability to recognise the register, meaning, and cultural import of a German text, and to render that text appropriately in English.
2. Students will also practice Précis writing in German: the ability to summarise a text in German on a journalistic or cultural topic.
3. In the Language Practical students will develop their fluency in spoken German and their presentation skills.
Assessment Information
Written language component of assessment = 10 credits
Spoken language component of assessment = 10 credits

The written language component consists of written language exercises (practice), a class exam in December (20%) and a degree exam in April/May (80%).

The German spoken language component consists of a continuous assessment of German oral language skills (40%) and an oral exam in German (60%).
