Course descriptionThis is a course in translation into English. Each week, students will translate a text, or an extract from a text sourced from a range of periods and genres (library, journalistic, didactic, techinical, commercial etc)and therefore in differing registers.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to produce accurate, effective and fluent English translations of Portuguese texts in a range of styles and registers.
They will have excellent comprehension skills and a far more in depth understanding of the relationships between two languages and their usage, which will also help them considerably in their own Portuguese language compositions.
Assessment Information
2 assessed translations each semester, from which the best two marks will be carried foreward (15% each)
1 three hour examination consisting of two translations (70%)
