Course descriptionBaroque is essentially ?an Italian phenomenon? (E.Panofsky), and it reveals the bursting universe discovered by consciousness in a new balance of elements, infinitely changing, between art and science, life and death, love and alchemy, senses and form, matter and energy. We will explore this modern (Italian) universe looking at the lavish paintings by Caravaggio and Artemisia, listening to the powerful music by Vivaldi, reading the hilarious stories of Bertoldo and Bertoldino, the ingeniuous heresies of Menocchio, the philosophical plays by Giordano Bruno and the scientific theories of Galileo.
