Course descriptionThis course provides a further introduction to statistical methods in Geography using relevant example from across the discipline. Course work is designed to give students experience in using the methods to analyse real world data and thereby gain insights into their value and limitations.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To develop a broad, integrated knowledge and understanding of quantitative methods, their principles and appropriate application with Geography
To gain an appreciation of issues in the use of statistical methods for both descriptive and inferential purposes
To consider how best to use, interpret and evaluate numerical and graphical data to achieve goals
To provide a basic knowledge of the skills needed to carry out basic computer-based statistical analysis
To have a critical understanding of the particular issues associated with the analysis of quantitative spatial data
To gain practical experience of a selection of the principal skills and a few of the specialised skills employed in this field
To gain experience drawing on a range of sources in making judgements
