Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this course, the candidate should be cognisant of the research action plan within the WHO 2008-2013 Action Plan for the Global Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Non communicable Diseases, and understand the dynamics of global health research, its impact on prioritisation of disease and illness, and on north-south health research capacity building.
The candidate should:
* understand basic research methods employed in estimating Global Burden of Disease
* Understand how global health research spending relates to global burden of disease - the '10-90' gap
* Understand the impact of medical research on genomics on health inequity globally
* Be conversant with the ethical consideration to conducting health research in developing countries
* Have the skills to develop a local strategy response to one area of global health research relevant to local context.

Assessment Information
| Formal summative written assessment will constitute 60% of the student's grade. Online assessment will incorporate a variety of activities and will constitute 40% of the overall course grade and is taken to represent a formative assessment of learning throughout the programme |

| This course will be taught entirely by distance learning, using the virtual learning environment WebCT as the delivery platform. Course materials are protected by secure username and password access that will be made available to registered users. |
