Course description | The course will cover basics or Turkish language, alphabet, vowel harmony, simple, past and future tenses and reading to practice these tenses. Topic based vocabulary will be provided. Simple dialogues will be introduced. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Students will learn the Turkish alphabet, consonants, vowels and how they function in sentences.
2. Students will learn Turkish vowel harmony and basic tenses such as progressive, past and future tenses and understand the differences between them, They will be able to use these structures in different contexts and do the relevant exercises.
3. Students will be able to read and understand some basic texts and answer the text-based, open and reflective questions.
4. They will be able to take part in simple conversations.
5. They will learn to write some situational dialogues\introduce themselves and ask questions when working in pairs. |

Examinations:90% [80% of this examination mark is awarded for the written paper, and 20% for the oral] |

Academic description |
This course has been proposed to split Turkish1, which is a full year 40 credit course, into two consecutive 20 credit courses. It is expected to attract more students to register for the course. |

During the first semester the syllabus design will be as following:
Tthe alphabet, vowel harmony, days of the week, months, seasons, numbers, colours,telling time, adjectives- comparative and superlative forms of adjectives, progressive tense, past tense, future tense, basic vocabulary, pronouns and simple dialogues-greetings |
