Course descriptionThe Media Arabic course introduces students to the vocabulary, styles and broad content of the Arabic press and broadcast media, especially news media. The course systematically covers various areas of current concern in Arab mass media, and may include topics such as: politics, elections, social and cultural issues, law and order, economics, trade and industry, disaster and aid. Students are introduced to the range of news media in the Arab world and are given practical training to learn how to comprehend their specialized vocabulary, style and subject content, through translation, summaries and listening comprehension.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- To instil in students the core vocabulary and constructions of Media Arabic
- To give students an understanding of how the Arabic language is manipulated to meet contemporary media needs
- To develop students' ability to comprehend, translate, write and speak in the register of contemporary Media Arabic
