Course description | The course will build on Advanced Arabic 1 and provide the student with advanced communication skills to enable him or her to carry out high level interviews in Arabic. Language teaching will be intensive (20 hours per week) for the first four weeks at a language institution in the Arab world. The student will then have three weeks to complete a small language-based project which must include an interview (or short interviews) (totalling 30 minutes) in Arabic and short report (1,500 words) in Modern Standard Arabic.
The start date for this course will be 5th January 2014. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To learn advanced Arabic through authentic materials.
To develop students¿ oral fluency in Educated Spoken Arabic (ESA)
To improve students ability to listen to Arabic films and summarise their content.
To enhance students' aural, oral and reading abilities in Modern Standard Arabic
To be able to apply knowledge of Arabic in carrying out high-level interviews in Arabic.

Assessment Information
Pass/fail based on attendance at a language institution in the Arab world for the four weeks.
Short report in Arabic (1500 words) (50%) plus 30 minutes recorded interview or set of interviews (50%).

Syllabus |
Four weeks of intensive language study at a language institution in the Arab world to focus on the Arab Spring and its influence on novels, short stories and plays.
This will be followed by the short project which will require the student to carry out an interview or series of interviews in Arabic totalling 30 minutes with an accompanying report in Arabic of 1500 words.
