| Course description | This core course is for MSc students in their final year. It is the culmination of previous courses in topics relating to health and social care and to research. Students, in discussion with their supervisor, select a relevant topic area and research question. During the earlier research course the student should prepare their dissertation research proposal and ethics application and may begin data collection. The dissertation will be written over the summer after Year 2.
There are two components to this course. The dissertation takes the form of a piece of research under supervision. This will evidence the ability of the student to plan and carry out a small research project with the appropriate level of critical appraisal and knowledge of research and enquiry. The dissertation should also consist of an extended review of relevant literature.
The second element is the production (using a template provided) of a research poster which will enable the student to describe the methods and results of their research. This will be presented online with the opportunity for discussion with fellow students.

4. The ability to summarise and present their work in different formats. |
Assessment Information
A written dissertation of 12,000 words maximum (85%)
A one page poster presented online to communicate the essence of the research approach and findings (15%)
