Course descriptionDescription of salient phonological phenomena mainly exemplified from English; their analysis in terms of current linguistic theory.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To acquire a basic knowledge of the relevant phenomena appropriate to postgraduate study in English and Applied Linguistics: to develop an ability to discover general patterns in, and to formulate generalisations over sets of relevant data.
Assessment Information
Class Test (30% - taken during week 6) and one 2,500 word essay (70% submitted in December)

Essay deadline: Thursday 19th December 2013 by 12 noon
Word limit: 4000 maximum
