Folding can be considered one of the most common of all design techniques and by exploring this activity through creasing, bending, hinging, corrugating, crumpling etc a set of structures will be produced.
Through exploration of repetition of individual elements, sequential scale change, surface treatment and material choice, a series of objects with an intended design function will be proposed.
Further development will consider structures capable of supporting, protecting, wrapping and packaging the product.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. By the end of the course, through attending classes and engaging in directed and independent study, students should be able to:

explore paper folding and a basic design tool to give structure to surface.


2. Practice
Develop 3D objects through an exploration of repetition


3. Present
develop a cohesive series of resolved objects with a design or decorative function
Assessment Information
This course will be assessed by the submission of a portfolio of visual design works within the discipline studied. This will include a selection of resolved design works, preparatory studies, visual research and evidence of a contextual awareness through a completed sketchbook and/or visual journal. The work must be presented in a clear and professional manner appropriate to the discipline. The submission should include work undertaken within the class as well as directed and independent study out with the class. Typically, this will comprise:

The combined submission will be assessed against the three learning outcomes for this course. These are equally weighted and each will be given a percentage grade. To pass, students must achieve a minimum of 30% in each learning outcome and an overall combined mark of 40% minimum.
