Course descriptionA survey of Greek art and architecture from its beginnings in the Bronze Age, through the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods, the impact on Etruscan and Roman and ongoing Classical influences. This illustrated course will make use of the main cast collections in Edinburgh to explore the development of the Ideal and reactions to it.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. By the end of the course, students will have the ability to:

describe the key developments, both chronologically and stylistically, of classical art and architecture
2. interpret classical art and architecture in a critical manner
3. integrate different forms of classical art and architecture to gain a coherent understanding of their social and political functions
4. apply the principals of Greek & Roman architecture to an evaluation of Edinburgh¿s architectural heritage
