| Course description | This is a for-credit course offered by the Office of Lifelong Learning (OLL); only students registered with OLL should be enrolled.
This course focuses on some of the most exciting developments in early Twentieth Century writing. It explores works by modernist authors such as James Joyce, William Faulkner and Jean Rhys, who developed radical new styles, challenging formal and social conventions, and creating innovative works that reshaped our understanding of literature. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should be able to:
* read actively rather than passively;
* demonstrate a working knowledge of the vocabulary of literary analysis;
* explain and apply correctly terms such as ¿modern¿ and postmodern¿;
* assess and account for the form, structure and content of the texts studied. |
Assessment Information
| One 2000 word essay submitted after the course finishes, worth 100% of the total course mark. To pass, students must achieve a minimum of 40%. |
