Course description | THIS IS A FOR-CREDIT COURSE OFFERED BY THE OFFICE OF LIFELONG LEARNING (OLL); ONLY STUDENTS REGISTERED WITH OLL SHOULD BE ENROLLED.
This course is designed for students new to poetry, especially those who feel that poetry is difficult or intimidating. By beginning with more accessible contemporary poetry and working back to more formal and historical material, the course aims to demystify the genre and build student confidence in reading, understanding and discussing poetic works in various forms. It aims to help students develop skills such as close reading, analysis and interpretation and give them a solid grounding in key styles and forms, which they can draw on when reading poetry in the future. |
