Course descriptionStaphylococci and Streptococci are major human and animal pathogens. We will explore how these Gram-positive bacteria have evolved potent virulence mechanisms to evade the host immune response and cause diseases ranging from skin abscesses to life-threatening endocarditis. Selected research articles which use an array of molecular and genomic approaches to investigate the evolution and pathogenesis of these critical pathogens will form the basis for group discussions.
