Course descriptionRecent years have seen a growing awareness of the major role played by RNA molecules and RNA processing in biological systems. The course will cover many aspects of the function, structure and evolution of RNA and will highlight the dual roles of RNAs as functional components of cells and major carriers and mediators of genetic information. Students progress will be assessed in course through presentation and discussion of research papers, and writing an essay.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
(1) Students will gain an appreciation of history and the current state of RNA research. (2) Students will critically evaluate scientific papers. (3) Students will sharpen skills to communicate and discuss complex issues both orally and in writing.
