| Course description | An introduction to the creative practice of musical composition including: form, rhythm, harmony, instrumentation and cultural context. The student's own creative work will be developed in individual tutorials. Students are encouraged to make a rigorous exploration of the horizons of their musical experience and interest. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of the essentials of creative compositional practice and their context.
- They will demonstrate the development of individual creative skills and musical issues arising from them.
- They will demonstrate core skills of music notation and the preparation of scores and performance materials. |

Two original and contrasting compositions, to be submitted by end of Semester 1 (40%).
