Course description | This optional course will cover both fluid / flow biomechanics as well as musculoskeletal biomechanics. The former will be covered in lectures on biofluid dynamics, the mechanics of solids, of the normal circulation and of ageing and diseased arteries. Blood and blood flow, mechanotransduction, examples of simulation and modelling will allow more in-depth exploration of the fluid / flow biomechanics. Musculoskeletally, bone and implants and their response to loads, as well as bone micro-structure and its constitutive behaviour will be the initial focus, with lectures on the skeletal muscle and image guided computational modelling of musculoskeletal components exploring musculoskeletal biomechanics in greater detail. |

Assessment Information
Assessment will consist of continuous, in-course assessments and a final assessment. In-course assessment will be composed of a mixture of multiple choice-type questions, short essays, practical tasks, contributions to discussions and group learning activities - and will be delivered in time with individual modules making up the course. Final assessment will normally include a combination of multiple choice-type questions and short essays and it will take place at the end of the course period.
A number of bespoke technologies and the University's online assessment tool QuestionMark Perception will be used to deliver the more interactive and visually driven elements of assessment.
