Course descriptionThe main focus of this course is on interpersonal and emotional work in nursing.
Students explore the nature of caring and emotional work in nursing. Situations that give rise to emotional work are examined. Illustrations are taken from the gynaecological context but students are encouraged to consider wider applications and draw on their experiences in practice. The intimate and sensitive nature of some health care situations is explored with respect to the nurse's role and the value of empathetic relationships for both patients and staff is considered. Students are encouraged to explore and share their own experiences and feelings associated with caring relationships.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Nursing 1 (NUST08001) AND Health and Society 1A (NUST08002) AND Health and Society 1B (NUST08003) AND Nursing 2 (NUST08006) AND Health and Society 2A (NUST08004) AND Health and Society 2B (NUST08005)
