Course description | This course comprises four experimental projects for each student, chosen (from a wide-ranging total set) to include a balanced sample of experimental techniques. Each project extends over two weeks, attending three afternoons per week. There are also workshops held at the end of semester 1 and beginning of semester 2. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- Design and carry out an experiment to test a physical theory with guidance from a lab script.
- Identify the sources of any errors in experimental results, quantify them and formulate approaches to control them.
- Analyse the consistency of experimental data with predictions from existing theories or other data sets where appropriate.
- Maintain a complete and legible contemporary record of experimental procedures and results.
- Present a complete, reproducible written or oral account of an experiment and the conclusions drawn from it to a professional standard, incorporating figures, tables and graphs where appropriate.
- Resolve conceptual and technical difficulties by locating and integrating relevant information from a diverse range of sources.
