Course descriptionThe course on Human Cognitive Neuroscience will enable Master students to develop an insight into the current areas of major theoretical concern within the discipline of Cognitive and Clinical Neuropsychology. In addition, the course will give Master students knowledge of how experimental studies of patients with brain diseases and brain damage contribute to the understanding of human cognition. There will also be an examination of how theories of human cognition can be applied to the understanding of important aspects of pathological brain.

This course will examine the issue of double dissociations within different areas of cognition, including hemi-inattention, dysexecutive syndromes, apraxias and amnesias syndromes. It will introduce Master students to the major theoretical perspectives and the experimental evidence that has contributed to those perspectives, drawing mainly on behavioural, neuroimaging and neuroanatomical studies of brain damaged adults.

Formative feedback event;
- Part of the course is run in a workshop style including group discussions, with considerable opportunities for formative feedback via peer debates, case discussions, question and answer sessions.

On successful completion of this course, Master students will be able to critically evaluate:
- The link between brain structures and cognitive functions
- Traditional and contemporary theories of neuropsychological disorders
- Assessment techniques in neuropsychological research
- Differential diagnosis in neuropsychology
- Traditional and modern approach to memory disorders
- Basics neuroimaging techniques
