Course descriptionThe course will provide an advanced understanding of topics in personality and individual differences. Topics covered include the structure of personality, including topics such as dimensionality, higher order factors, and the nature of personality facets. We will critically analyze the causes of differences in well-being, and cognitive and biological/genetic theories of individual difference traits such as extraversion, and neuroticism.

The continuity of personality across different species is address, as is the relationship of ability and personality to Axis 1 and Axis II disorders.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students will be able to:
1. Present a critical appraisal of recent papers in the field
2. Critically evaluate the assumptions of personality research
3. Be able to compare competing causal models of personality traits
4. Discuss evidence for a role played by normal personality in personality disorders
