Course descriptionThe course reviews issues in epidemiological study
design, analysis and interpretation including standardisation, effect modification, measurement error, regression dilution bias, limitations of routine data, power and sample size, scales and the role of multi-variable analyses in epidemiology, with references to specific study designs (e.g. migrant studies, twin studies, life course epidemiology) and disease areas (cancer, cardiovascular disease, communicable disease) and the epidemiologic transition.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Introduction to Epidemiology (PUHR11032) AND Introduction to Qualitative Research (PUHR11033) AND Introduction to Statistics (PUHR11050)

&·Understanding of the concepts of epidemiological study design and analysis. The skills to critically appraise epidemiological studies.
Assessment Information
An assignment in the form of a critical appraisal of the design, analysis and interpretation of an epidemiological study and a study design exercise will be used for the assessment.
