Course descriptionAn introduction to the history and performance of the Great Highland Bagpipe for Visiting Students. Students will learn basic playing technique through weekly group tuition sessions, and will study the history, development and cultural context of the bagpipe in its international setting.

By the end of the course, students will
- have achieved basic competency in playing technique
- have achieved basic competency in reading specialist piping notation
- have a familiarity with key aspects of the history and cultural context of highland piping
- have developed a broad understanding of the main genres of highland pipe repertoire

Presentation of a completed learning diary (25%)
One 2-hour written examination (35%)
One practical performance assessment (40%)
