Course descriptionGeneric skills and knowledge are necessary in all aspects of criminal justice social work. However specialist knowledge and skills are required in practice with different client groups, practice in a range of settings and the management of these combinations. This course will allow practitioners and managers to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of a specialist field of practice. The expectation will be that this relates to their actual area of practice or management and will therefore need prior approval from the programme director.

Class Delivery Information A plan of independent study will be developed covering 6 days with the student and their tutor. The exception will be a Good Practice in Social Work Management course delivered over 4 workshop days with 2 days of online learning.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students be able to:
 Demonstrate awareness of issues associated with their elective area of study.
 Demonstrate awareness of associated ethical issues
 Demonstrate awareness of particular practice/ skills considerations
Demonstrate contemporary knowledge relating to evidence- based practice relevant to specialist area of study.
 Evaluate intervention outcomes.
