Course descriptionThis module will explore principles of good practice and the link between effective practice based upon social work values and research based principles of effective practice and their link to positive outcomes with clients. This module will critically examine a variety of models and methods used in individual and group work, and their application with a variety of clients. The importance of intervention choices being based on effective assessment, the role of the worker  client relationship, multi- agency/professional work and evaluating outcomes will be explored.

Class Delivery Information The course will be delivered over 4 taught days and 2 days of online study facilitated by a tutor. Classroom sessions include presentation, discussion & practical exercises. Independent study & application to the workplace setting is also required.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
 To develop a critical understanding of the principles of effective practice.
 To increase competence in applying a range of models and methods to practice.
 To explore the culture of the workplace: the opportunities and limitations to working effectively.
 Demonstrate a good understanding of the effective practice debates in criminal justice social work.
 Recognise the central role for productive worker- client relationships.
 Understand the importance of Assessment in matching methods of interventions to client needs/ abilities/public safety issues.
 Demonstrate ability to develop and apply methods of evaluation to practice.
