Course descriptionThe course is divided into four sections which explore different aspects of urban growth and development through an architectural perspective.

Evolution and Revolution
An overview of urbanisation 1500 to the present day and an examination of the critical forces that are transforming the way in which we define and value urban growth.

Reading Townscapes
The acquisition of skills to identify and critically analyse townscapes and land use within cities.

Embracing Growth
The effect of urbanisation, industrialisation and globalisation in the developed and developing world. Knowledge of mechanisms to creatively interact with such forces.

Conservation as Regeneration
Current conservation theory, the conservation of urban quarters. Conservation as a means to urban regeneration and sustainability.
