| Course description | Architectural Design Studio E is a 20-credit, non-core module that runs in Semester 1. A varying number of design units, running in parallel with one another, may be offered in this module. Students will elect to take one of the units. Some of the units may have prerequisites, although each will meet the same learning outcomes. The units offered will be described through an initial presentation to students, and subsequently through briefing materials made available to them. The tasks set out in the briefing materials will be commensurate with the 20 credit weighting of the module: some units may focus on a specific and limited architectural question or proposition and examine it through a new exploratory design project; other units may give students the opportunity to develop and elaborate new aspects of projects that they have produced earlier in the MArch programme. The emphasis in this module is upon design, conceptual, contextual and representational issues. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, the student is expected to demonstrate:
1. The ability to develop and act upon a productive conceptual framework for an architectural project or intervention, based on a critical analysis of relevant issues, within a limited time period.
2. A knowledge of how to intelligently, effectively, and creatively appraise and respond to a specific design brief producing a well-resolved outcome that demonstrates exploratory, investigative and critical processes.
3. The ability to strategically and skillfully employ different representational media in the design process and in the presentation of the completed project. |

2 criteria required to be demonstrated in the module (see below). |
