The Major Design Project (MDP) is the most important piece of work undertaken in the MLA programme. It consists of 2 modules: MDP research and MDP portfolio. The MDP research embodies the theoretical, the data collection and the analysis and the MDP portfolio applies this understanding to a realistic, self-initiated, design project.

Aims of course
1 To encourage independent reflective learning
2 To provide a vehicle through which students can synthesize and focus their knowledge and understanding of Landscape Architecture

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. apply and extend the knowledge, understanding, techniques and skills of the professional landscape architect to a self selected/initiated landscape design project
2. creatively resolve a self selected/intiated landscape design brief demonstrating a clear understanding of the landscape design process
3. Clear communication of L.O. 1 & 2 through the use of professional techniques and skills
