Course descriptionThis module introduces architecture students to the practice of Sculpture. Students will engage with the current debates in contemporary Art Practice, and be introduced to the fundamental knowledge and skills of Sculpture and reflect on their own architectural practice. Students work on a series of exercises and projects of differing timeframes and increasing complexity within a studio environment exploring form and material. Students are encouraged to develop an iterative creative process that incorporates making, evaluating, presenting and reflecting.

Aims:
1) introduce basic creative methods, techniques and approaches
2) explore how practitioners personally respond to briefs
3) introduce materials and processes

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. EVALUATE: evaluate and respond to art practice project briefs, and formulate appropriate approaches.

2. DEVELOP: apply fundamental and conceptual development through a transparent iterative process in the development of a sculpture form.

3. REALISE: realise sculpture project solutions through structured and transparent methodologies.
Assessment Information
Portfolio of project work will be used to assess all learning outcomes. Each outcome will receive a single grade.

This module is currently only available to students in ESALA and Edinburgh College of Art (eca). As an elective offered by eca, the eca academic assessment regulations will apply to this module (course).

Academic description Mode of Delivery will be: Studio-Based Project Work, Lectures, Group Crits, Individual and Group Mentoring, Project Review.
